Neil Helm, known for his crowd animation work on “Inside Out 2” and “Turning Red,” serves as head of interactive animation. Their expertise helps ensure the platform meets professional standards while remaining intuitive for newcomers.

Industry Applications and Early Adoption

The platform’s early access programme attracted over 8,000 beta users, including creatives from DreamWorks Animation, Roblox, Duolingo, and Take-Two Interactive. Many are exploring how Cartwheel can accelerate background and crowd animation, rapid prototyping, or previsualisation tasks.

“Animation software hasn’t really changed in 20 years,” notes Carr. “There’s no reason the same rigging or blocking task should take three hours every time.”

While designed with professional animators in mind, Cartwheel’s simplified interface opens doors for content creators who previously couldn’t access animation tools due to technical barriers. This democratisation could have far-reaching implications for interactive media, education, marketing, and social content creation.

The platform’s character generator is trained exclusively on licensed 3D assets, addressing concerns about copyright infringement that have plagued other generative AI tools.
